When telling you about the Wonderful Engineering inside ourselves i will try to avoid going into Engineering and Medical terms and their details..... but i will try to correlate both Engineering and Human Anatomy which wonders me so much in a plain simple and easy to understand language.
The human heart is basically in Engineering terms is a Positive Displacement Pump.
According to how many hours the pump is used Engineers name the pump as...
1. Heavy Duty --
Which runs continously for a certain time period say 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
2. Medium Duty --
Which runs for say 10-12 hours at a time or more but not so much as Heavy duty.
3. Light Duty. --
Which runs for a very short time say 1- 3 hours at best like our home water pump.
SO OUR HEART IS A POSITIVE DISPLACEMENT HEAVY DUTY PUMP IN ENGINEERING TERMS
Now feel the heart in the left side of our chest... can you feel it beating.... in every minute a heart beats 72 times. That is heart is contracting and expanding 72 times a minute.
In 1 minute your heart is pumping 5 litres of blood.... you can fill 5 1L Mineral Water bottle in a minute if you use heart as a pump. In another way if you want to fill up a tank we use on our roof top of 1000 litres our heart will take 200 minutes or about 3 hours 20 minutes.
To make it easy if you let your heart pump blood without any restriction blood will travel upwards 30 feet that is say a 3 story building.

Amazingly enough there is electrical signals that is sent from our brains to the heart to ensure the proper functioning. The contracting power is generated from the glucose produced from the food we eat. It is estimated that human heart takes the power of say a 13 watt light bulb and gives in output 1.3 watt.
Tube light that we use is 20 watt .... pumps we use in our home are generally 373 watt( 1/2 HP) or 746 watt (1 HP) etc.
NOW WONDERFUL THING IS.....
I still remember in this years Qurbani I saw the heart of the Cow, took it in my hands and I wondered how can this piece of meat be a pump....there is nothing hard metal there.... yet its amazing how power is transferred through this muscles to the blood... the power of this muscles is so much that blood will reach a 3 storied building roof or about 30 feet.
YOUR HEART CAN THROW BLOOD UPTO 30 FEET....

Heart works continuously without any maintainance for 50- 60- 70 even 100 years at a time... Even the most advanced heavy duty pump requires regular checks, maintainance and repair... the ingenious design of the Heart ensures that no cooling or repairing is necessary. It runs on and on ... we don't need to even care about it. Human Heart is a wonderful Machine.
